Sugihara Week Classical Music Concert will feature flutist Machiko Takahashi, violinists Yurina Arai and Reina Shibutani, and pianist Aki Maeda. At the moment, the musicians are engaged in concert activities mainly in Europe and all have already performed in Lithuania.
Soloists from Japan will be accompanied by pianist Kotryna Kaklauskaitė from Vytautas Magnus University Music Academy. The program will feature masterpieces of classical music and Japanese tunes which have been specially selected by each musician for Lithuanian audiences. More…

During the Screening, a Documentary about Chiune Sugihara “Sugihara Survivers: Jewish and Japanese, Past and Future” (director: Junichi Kajioka) will be presented. The movie has never been shown in Lithuania before, and is the first of its genre for the director himself.

On September 7 at 12:00, during the Sugihara Week, the students of J. Dobkevičius Progymnasium will fly Japanese kites Rendako and Rokkaku. The kites made in Japan and Lithuania will fly with the wind and represent the dreams of children of both countries to live in a wonderful world, to enjoy freedom and to create a beautiful future. 30 Rendako kites made by the students of Iwate Prefecture High School and united into 3 long chains have been delivered to the Festival and are dedicated to the memory of victims of East Japan Great Earthquake (2011). Poetry is another bridge connecting different cultures. During the Sugihara Week we will present the exhibition of Japanese verses (haiku) created by Lithuanian children. All these verses with beautiful pictures were created last year and participated in the international World Children’s Haiku Contest. The exhibition will be opened on September 7, 12:00, at J. Dobkevičius Progymnasium.
The 14th World Children’s Haiku Contest was held under the theme “Morning” during 2015 and 2016, and more than 26 thousand wonderful works were submitted from 36 countries and regions. More…
