Ališauskas, Arvydas

1942

Arvydas Ališauskas is the first translator in Lithuania who translated Japanese literary works directly from Japanese. Since 1969 he has translated numerous works by Akutagawa Ryūnosuke, Ogawa Pimei, Rieko Nakagawa, Miyoko Matsutani, Sachiko Hatanaka and others. He is also a pioneer of Japanology in Kaunas and the first Head of the Asian Studies Centre (previously Japanese Studies Centre) of Vytautas Magnus University.
