Oriental Studies Reading Room

Oriental Studies reading room is the biggest oriental library in Lithuania and Baltic countries. Scientific and educational literature collection of Asian languages, cultures, religions, philosophy, anthropology and the history of art is made up of over 10 thousand publications not only in the main Western European but also Japanese, Chinese, Sanskrit,  Hindi, Pali, Korean, Persian, Arabic, Tibetan, Mongolian, Thai, Punjabi and other Asian languages. One room is assigned to Alfredas Binderis (Switzerland) Orientalist collection made up from 4 thousand publications. It is one of the largest and most consistent Buddhist culture, philosophies, religions and art collections in Central and Eastern European universities.

 

Asian Books Space (Former Sugihara Chiune reading room)

Asian Books Space ( former Chiune Sugihara reading room) has a special status in the Vytautas Magnus university library, located at Vaclovas Biržiška reading room (Daukanto g. 52). Chiune Sugihara reading room situated in the Centre for Asian Studies of Vytautas Magnus University was established in November 2008 (the official opening ceremony took place in October 2009). It is one of eight reading rooms that belong to the central library of Vytautas Magnus University. One of the main aims for the establishment of this reading room is to provide students of East Asian study programs with necessary materials for their studies, as well as to expand literature funds regarding Asian countries in Kaunas.
