For Sugihara Week the Extraordinary Japanese culture festival “nowJapan” is moving to Kaunas Artists’ House and is inviting everyone to engage in Japanese creative workshops on 6-7 September with the artists of the Land of the Rising Sun: Shota Kotake, Keiko Kikkawa and Tatsuo Horiuchi. The young festival-goers will be invited to Japanese kite-making creative sessions before the workshops held by Japanese artists.
Schedule of the workshops:
6th of September:
10 am – 11 am Japanese kite-making workshop*
12 pm – 1.30 pm Keiko Kikkawa manga drawing workshop**
2.30 pm – 4 pm Shota Kotake portrait drawing workshop***
7th of September:
10 am – 11 am Japanese kite-making workshop*
12 pm – 1.30 pm Keiko Kikkawa manga drawing workshop**
2.30 pm – 4 pm Tatsuo Horiuchi Excel drawing workshop***

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:
Shota Kotake – an illustrator from Japan, who will draw manga portraits and will present different manga styles. Before drawing Shota gets acquainted with the person to be drawn, so the manga portraits are personalized and accurately convey traits and emotions. The artist says that the most important thing to him is dedicating his talent for his communities, thus promoting unity and art. Shota has hosted more than 20 personal exhibitions in Ireland, Dublin, where he currently lives, and works with dozens of creative projects and commissions. He not only paints but also engages in other works related to art: works as a gallery technician, stage designer, photographer, restorer of paintings, sculptor, developer of installations in open spaces.
Keiko Kikkawa is an illustrator, comic book script writer and professional manga artist who invites you to look at the behind the scenes process of the manga universe. Keiko conducts lectures on manga, organizes creative workshops and personal exhibitions in cultural events, designs logos and shirts, does live drawing performances. Since creating comic books has become a way of life, Keiko does not leave home without her sketchbooks – wherever she is, she draws and generates ideas for new comics, shares sketches with her followers on social media. Do not miss the chance to meet the manga professional, learn how comics are made and try creating your own at Keiko’s workshop!
Tatsuo Horiuchi is an artist titled as the Japanese Michelangelo who will teach how to draw using Microsoft Excel. Tatsuo chose the least likely drawing tool after retirement for practical reasons: free, easy to use and already installed on his computer. The colourful and meticulously detailed artworks quickly went viral and made Tatsuo famous worldwide, bringing him several awards. Six years after his drawing with Excel, Tatsuo wins the first place in the Auto Shape Drawing three times in a row, his work is being exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in Gunma Prefecture, designed by the renowned Japanese architect Arata Isozaki, and outside of Japan: London, Singapore. Tatsuo held Excel drawing courses in Germany, Singapore, and continues them in Japan and now in Lithuania.
ABOUT THE KITE-MAKING WORKSHOPS:
Festival “nowJapan” invites students to experience the culture of Japan in creative kite-making workshops. Kites in Japan are significant in cultural celebrations and festivals, their shape, color and decoration often depict Japanese folklore or have symbolic meaning. Kites made during the workshops will fly high in the sky during Saturday event of Sugihara Week at Nemunas island.
