“Equal of the Sun”- is an intriguing story about power, loyalty and love of the sixteenth century in Iranian royal mansion. The story is about a strong woman in masculine Muslim world. Princess Pari is are strong, clever woman whose courage had no bounds. The story narrated by eunuch Dzavaher. He came to serve in the castle because he wanted to recover his father’s honorable name. His father was accused of Shah treason and was murdered.

When princess father suddenly died, there was confusion in the palace because the Shah left no heir. Pari was his first adviser with the knowledge of the Castle policy. She, also, knew everything what the shah knew. However, in that historical period, women could not manage, they could be only an adviser or wife. Parry helps to get the throne to her older brother, who was closed for a half of his life in prison by the order of her father. She hoped that her brother Ismail would appreciate her effort and publish Pari on his adviser, but crowned Ismail refused any help from Pari and forbade her to intervene in the castle policy.

After long years in prison, shah Ismail kept all people his enemies, traitors and he was afraid of being killed. So he ordered to kill all men: brothers, cousins, their children – anyone who can claim to the throne after his death. Pari realized what mistake she had made and knew that the existence of the dynasty comes to an end. She decided to overthrow the new Shah at any cost, even if she would have to sacrifice her life.

Dzavaher was Pari‘s faithful servant, which helps her to implement all her intentions by offering advices and gathering the necessary information. Dzavaher was Pari‘s darling and she used to call him a “jewel“. Eunuch was here not only to help the princess to solve her problems, but he, also, did not forget his goal – to find out who and why had killed his father.

Anna Amirrezvani is a talented storyteller who wanted to refute the stereotypes of Middle Eastern women. Most people imagine that they did not have any power, but this is not true. The writer proved this by describing one of the most influential women in Iran history – Princess Pari Chan Chanūm Sefevi. This is a story reflecting real events that have occurred in Iran in that historical period. The book‘s story is unpredictable, charming and mysterious.
