The Embassy of Japan and Institute of International Relations and Political Science of Vilnius University invite everyone to a public lecture “Japan’s security policy in a new era of geopolitics” given by professor Shinichi Kitaoka.

Today’s world seems to be getting into an era of new geopolitics: China is expanding in both South and East China Sea and strengthening its control over the neighboring countries through economic and political measures; Russia is returning to its traditional assertive policy; US is now downsizing its role as the policeman of the world; religious and ethnic conflicts are on the rise globally; and the UN is not functioning effectively. Professor Kitaoka will explain how Japan is trying to cope with this change under the Abe administration and try to find common grounds with the peace-loving democracies in Europe.

Professor Kitaoka isa distinguished scientist of International Relations. A former Japan’s ambassador at the United Nations is now a President at International University of Japan (IUJ), Professor of Modern Japanese Politics and Diplomacy at National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS), Executive Director of Research at International Institute for Policy Studies (IIPS) and Emeritus Professor of University of Tokyo.
