On March 8, VMU Asian Week invites you not to miss an evening dedicated to Taiwan.

During the event VMU Centre for Asian Studies together with Taipei Mission in Latvia will open an exhibition of Lithuania and Taiwan schoolchildren art. The exhibition is dedicated to the 100th independence anniversary of the Republic of Lithuania. The non-profit organization “the Association for Education through Art of Taiwan” has organized Annual World School Children’s Art Exhibition annually since 1965. The Exhibition will display 25 awards-winning paintings by school children from both Lithuania and Taiwan.

After the opening of the exhibition, screening of the movie “Monga” (艋舺, now known as Wanhua District) will be taking place. The movie tells a story about Mark Chao (Mosquito) and his friends who know very well that if you want to survive in the oldest Taipei district Monga you have to make friends with gangsters that make you stronger than your enemies. Mosquito soon begins to enjoy with his brother gangsters the lifestyle and gains leadership over “Gang of Princes,” the influence of which dominates the streets of Monga. But he is unaware that his newly discovered brotherhood will be tested.
