For two days at the end of Sugihara week, we would like to invite you to the VMU Grand Hall foyer to familiarise yourselves with Japanese and Jewish cultures, which can be expressed in a variety of forms. This is the pinnacle of the entire event, enriching the festival with sights, sounds and even tastes. Participants representing Japanese, Lithuanian and Jewish communities will be present.
On the 7th of September, at 15:00 we invite you to join us at workshops, dedicated to calligraphy and a Japanese style of painting on stone, which both will be led by M. Kaneko, the mayor of Yaotsu town. Later, we will listen to the music of guitars and learn some Japanese folk songs; this workshop is presented to us by Tokon International. Alongside all these events, you will have an opportunity to learn more about bonsai, Japanese dwarf trees, and ikebana, the art of flower arranging. Guests will also be treated to some Japanese tea, sencha. The day will be closed by an energetic group “Rakija Kleizmer Orkestar”.
On the 8th of September, the day will start at 14:00 and we will learn how to make traditional Japanese sweets, we will be introduced to Japanese drums and we will enjoy some Japanese style jazz. In other stands, various Japanese arts will be introduced, such as Japanese calligraphy, origami, a paper world of fairy tales kamishibai, bamboo dragonflies taketombo and other Japanese art forms. At 17:30, right after the workshops, we invite you to join us at a dynamic drum performance.
If the weather is nice, some of the events will be held in the Student square outside, right in front of the VMU Great Hall.
