Japanese Kites Festival

Location: J. Dobkevičiaus g. 7, Kaunas

On September 7 at 12:00, during the Sugihara Week, the students of J. Dobkevičius Progymnasium will fly Japanese kites Rendako and Rokkaku. The kites made in Japan and Lithuania will fly with the wind and represent the dreams of children of both countries to live in a wonderful world, to enjoy freedom and to create a beautiful future. 30 Rendako kites made by the students of Iwate Prefecture High School and united into 3 long chains have been delivered to the Festival and are dedicated to the memory of victims of East Japan Great Earthquake (2011).During the international camp in Kaunas, the students of J. Dobkevičius pro-gymnasium and the students of two schools in Yaotsu Town of Gifu Prefecture made 10 rokaku (hexagonal) kites, decorating them and giving them Lithuanian and Japanese names. So, the kites named Ačiū (Thank you), Laisvė (Freedom), Saulė (Sun), Taika (Peace), Sakura, etc. will fly into the sky. The kites made by students are dedicated in the memory of Ch. Sugihara and for the collaboration and friendship between Japan and Lithuania.
